Tips to Get a Relief from Hemorrhoids

A hemorrhoid is a condition that is caused by the movement or swelling of tissues found in the rectum and anus. Although it can be uncomfortable and painful, the hemorrhoid is not dangerous. There are primarily three types of hemorrhoids: internal, external, and mixed hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are found inside the rectum, and they do not cause pain because the area doesn’t have any sensory nerves.

Mixed hemorrhoids are a combination of both external and internal hemorrhoids. So how can you reduce the discomfort and pains that are associated with hemorrhoids? Keep reading to know more about hemorrhoid causes and ways to get a relief.

Causes of hemorrhoids
Anyone can suffer from hemorrhoids regardless of their age though this problem occurs more in people who are aged between 45 and 65 years. In young people, hemorrhoids occur in pregnant women or ladies who have just given birth. Although the exact cause of hemorrhoid is unknown, numerous factors enhance their development. You are at risk of suffering from this condition in case of the following situations.

  • Lifting heavy loads frequently
  • Lack of fiber in the diet
  • Constipation or straining when passing stool
  • Pregnancy and post delivery
  • Sitting for a long time
  • Obesity

Symptoms linked to hemorrhoids include light bleeding, inflammation, burning sensation or pain, discomfort, and itching. So, what helps with hemorrhoid relief? Below are essential tips to help ease hemorrhoids symptoms and promote healing.

Tips for hemorrhoid relief

  • Increase your fiber intake – To get a hemorrhoid relief and prevent constipation you need to add fiber to your diet as well as increase your fluid intake. The best way to accomplish this is to take foods such as vegetables and fruits. You can also take fiber supplements to get 20-30 grams of fiber each day. There are numerous fiber supplements in the market but consider trying a supplement that contains wheat dextrin. In case your hemorrhoid isn’t serious, a few dietary changes can be enough. But if the symptoms persist, try adding a fiber supplement and drinks enough water to soften your stool.
  • Lubricate the process – To help your stool slide by easily, consider mixing applesauce or yogurt with a tablespoon of mineral oil and take it during breakfast or lunch. However, ensure you don’t do this for a long time. If you choose this alternative, be sure you place a liner under the garment to absorb oil leakage.
  • Avoid delaying – Visit the bathroom every time you feel the urge to do so, immediately. Never wait for another convenient time because putting off a bowel movement worsens constipation and this can aggravate hemorrhoids.
  • Try the elevation method – When you elevate your feet slightly using a step-stool while sitting on the chamber pot, you will somehow change the position of your rectum. This will allow your stool to pass with ease meaning you will not experience pains during the process.
  • Try over-the-counter remedies – There are different off-the-shelf products for treating hemorrhoids. This includes soothing creams and witch hazel infused pads. In case these products don’t work, consider asking your physician about prescription preparations. You also take over-the-counter pain relievers if the symptoms persist.
  • Consider moistened toilet paper – Using a rough toilet paper after every bowel movement can increase your hemorrhoid symptoms. Consider using a moist hand towel or moist toilet paper to clean after and during every loo visit.
  • Take a warm bath – According to experts, soaking in a bath tap filled with warm water for approximately ten minutes multiple times a day helps a lot. After bathing, make sure you use a hemorrhoid cream or suppository to relieve symptoms. You could also sit in a sitz bath using a basin that can fit under the seat of your toilet. Doing this using warm water at least three times a day for fifteen minutes help significantly in easing the pain.
  • Apply a topical cream – These creams should only be used according to the doctor’s recommendation. Creams can help to numb the itchy area or sooth the itching.

Moreover, do not sit for long a period without taking short walks. Make sure you get up and stretch at regular intervals. Also, do not strain during defecation or stay seated on your toilet seat for a long time.

With these measures, the swelling and pain of most symptomatic hemorrhoids will decrease in less than seven days. What’s more, the firm lump will recede within six weeks. But if severe, persistent pain continues, be sure to contact your doctor, and he or she will recommend a procedure to provide hemorrhoid relief. For instance, the physician can choose to remove hemorrhoid via a small incision, which will offer hemorrhoid relief.
