Symptoms of Endometriosis to be aware of

Endometriosis has affected millions of women over the years, and unfortunately, the number goes on increasing. It is a disorder which causes the tissues that usually line the uterus to migrate outside the uterus. It adheres to the nearby body parts such as the bladder, fallopian tubes, or bowels. It becomes inflamed and swells as well during the monthly menstrual cycle of a woman who is detected with endometriosis.

Symptoms of Endometriosis to be aware of
It is not one of those diseases that heals with time. Endometriosis needs to be treated, or it is a wound that will sustain throughout the reproductive life of a woman. If you are experiencing any of the below symptoms of endometriosis, then it is essential to make an appointment with an endometriosis specialist as early as possible.

  • Painful menstruation
Painful menstruation is one of the most common symptoms of endometriosis. The pain can start a week before ovulation and continue until one week followed by the end of menstruation. The pain can also cause cramps in the stomach, followed by discomfort. The cramps that are causing pain may radiate and come in waves also. To overcome the pain in endometriosis, taking medication is a good treatment option for painful periods. Some medicines are specifically available to curb the menstruation pain. These medicines usually include a mild muscle relaxant.
  • Infertility
The most devastating symptom of endometriosis is infertility. It is estimated that 30-40% women who are suffering from endometriosis face fertility issues. In fact, most of the women realize that they have endometriosis only when they start having fertility issues. Infertility is caused by scar tissue damaging the walls as well as the ovaries of the womb. Not only getting pregnant but also carrying a child to term may be difficult. Women with endometriosis have a higher chance of miscarriage compared to others. This happens because of scar formations and hormonal imbalance.
  • Fatigue
Fatigue is a common way of a woman’s body reacting towards a disease. To the body, the implanted tissues and scarring can be taxing. It makes it difficult for a woman to carry out her day-to-day activities. Endometriosis can also create hormonal imbalances due to the endometrial tissues. Most of the time, fatigue is experienced in and around the menstruation cycle. Fatigue is one of the most underreported symptoms of endometriosis. This is because fatigue can be related to various other illnesses and problems as well. Chronic fatigue is probably not what you might have to battle every day. However, if you suffer from the same, it is essential to consult a doctor.
  • Painful sex
Sexual intercourse can be very painful when diagnosed with endometriosis. Endometriosis damages the reproductive organs. Damaging the muscles, the act of penetration can push against the scarred tissue. One can go slowly and communicate with their partner while having sex to lessen the pain. A woman’s body also tends not to allow penetration if there has been painful sex in the past. If you are having any such issues, it is needed to consult a doctor immediately.
